Health - The Intro

Looking back, I have struggled with my health and weight for as long as I can remember, and it’s never really gotten much easier. I have amassed a wealth of knowledge from trying different things in my never ending battle against my brain.

Here are the stats; At five foot, ten inches, I currently weigh 270 pounds. I have high blood pressure, sleep apnea, and binge eating disorder. I’ve been fortunate enough to stay clear of any additional issues, but this certainly is more than enough.

So how did this happen? It could be for a couple reasons, it’s really hard to tell. The one that I lean on the most is that I was a fairly active and athletic kid. I played sports in high school, but focused on working immediately afterwards. I maintained the level of calories I was eating during sports, but completely cut out all of the athletic pieces, and that just led to the weight gain.

The BED is tough to diagnose. There are so many things here that each deserve their own post on how I got to where I am, and all of the myriad of things I’ve done to attempt to overcome this particular issue. I did have some major success once, but it was tied to a diet that was impossible to maintain. I was able to keep a healthy lifestyle for about 8 months though and dropped to my ideal weight. In the end it wasn’t something I could maintain for longer than I had. The fact that I even HAD some success gives me hope that getting back isn’t completely out of the picture.

For the high blood pressure, that is tied to the types of foods I tend to binge on. Most of it is salty foods rather than sweets. I really believe this has kept me from getting diabetes too early, though I’m afraid it’s something that is right around the corner if I don’t make changes soon.

If I can move more, and kick the BED and start dropping weight, I believe the severity of the sleep apnea will drop, if not go away entirely. Not a professional opinion, but it wasn’t something I ever had until I hit a certain weight point.

The solution here is very simple in principle, but the application of these are sometimes more difficult to over come.

  • Stop binge eating
  • Move more/work out
  • Make some diet adjustments to drop processed foods and include more real foods.

So simple, right!? Well I’m going to attempt to catalog my journey here in the even that anyone else might need some additional ideas. I still highly recommend working with professionals, and will make sure that I spam the heck out of the fact that I’m some crizzo on the internet, that what works for me may not work for you, and to take anything I say with a grain of salt.
